Gérard Uféras

The Fabric of Dreams

  • My goal was to create a book layout to showcase the incredible work of Gérard Uféras, a leading French fashion photographer.

Seeking to create a beautiful object to showcase beautiful images. Once opened, the book design is not meant to be noticed, like a stage in a play, it's merely there to be a platform for its actors—supporting the entire production, but completely unnoticeable.

  • This is a simple visual problem, we needed to create a book layout with varied flow to convey the optimal showcase for a talented photographer's work.

  • The intimate, high contrast black and white photography in the book The Fabric of Dreams is a glance into the backstage world of fashion shows from Paris to Milan.

This specific rendition of the book sets out on the journey of the show itself: beginning with make-up and prep to lining up right before the models walk out on the runway. The middle section of the book highlights the runway itself, in all of its glory. The final image is of the culmination of the show itself: the quintessential wedding dress.

There are pauses, and surprises all along the way, most of all the center stage is Uféras’s marvelous photography. The design of the book melts away to create a runway for the spectacular photos to be viewed on.
